Description

These are uncomplicated poems written in everyday language, yet always alert to the mystery of the world around us. They celebrate people and places from the uplands of South Wales to the plains of India. It is the agnostic view of one subscribing to no fixed creed and the optimistic view of a believer in humanity. David Whitwell grew up on the Wirral next to the river Dee –  which often flows through his poems. He studied medicine in London and philosophy in Oxford before following a career as a psychiatrist. He has lived in Bristol with his wife Carolyn, for many years. He accompanied her many times to India when she was running a fair trade business. He is the author of Recovery beyond Psychiatry (2005).
